Short Term Individual Psychotherapy, Colorado Springs

Time Limited Therapy

If you are interested in psychotherapy, and want to have an end date in mind as we begin, time-limited approach might be for you:

I am currently offering short-term therapy for a few individuals. This program is part of a model of psychotherapy called AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), and this time limieted approach evolved as a part of an effort in the AEDP community to study the process of rapid change based on intense focus for the therapist and client.

The idea behind time limited therapy is that when the therapist and client are both aware that the work will be time limited, the process of change is amplified and accelerated during the therapy. The therapist helps the client to maintain a strong focus on what most needs healing and repair. It is a powerful resource for people who feel motivated for change and growth in a focused area that is important to them.

Clients often see this kind of work as “chapters.” After the agreed upon number of sessions are completed, some clients may wish to return at a future date for another cycle of work; time limited therapy does not mean you may not return again! You get to determine when it’s time to do another “chapter of work”. We work together to determine how many sessions and what goals we want to achieve.

I am committed to making the most of our time together. My stance as a therapist, whether in short- or long-term psychotherapy, is that change is possible from the very first session. In my work, I do not passively sit back while you tell me about the events of your week. I am active and engaged, focusing our exploration on the growing edge of your experience with acceptance and warmth, allowing the image of what is possible for you to begin to come into view.
